Solitary Glomus Tumor (Glomangioma)

Abstract
This is a report of three cases of solitary glomus tumor (glomangioma) of the soft tisse, treated at
the Department of General Surgery, Kwangju Christian Hospital.
Solitary glomus tumors are benign. Small painful subcutaneous nodules and found most commonly
in the subungal region of the fingers. Other unusual locations are the solar region of the great toe,
and the bottook.
Clinical symptoms are highly characteristic and remarkably severe for so small a lesion. At first
there are attacks of pain limited to the lesion which become more severe gradually and are stabbing
or burning in nature. The pain may be radiating and neuralgio, may be spontaneous or may be caused
by the slightest pressure, trauma or sudden exposure to cold or heat.
Generally, these tumors are benign, circumsvribed, blue or reddish, and seldom exceed 1§¯ in diam
eter.
The diagnosis is relatively easy with characteristic clinical features, and location. The final doagnosis
is made by histopathologic findings.
The only satisfactory treatment for gomus tumor whether solitary, multiple, or infiltrating is com
plete surgical excision.
